Fictive Nature, 2022

Reality is becoming increasingly difficult to pin-point in our daily lives. We are surrounded by cascades of incorporeal data that influences our perception of the world we live in. Nature itself, a symbol of purity in the absence of mankind, endures the endless perversions of photographers keen on selling idealised misrepresentations of the landscape for profit. The stock image market distributes photographs which strive to mislead people into an illusion of a world greater than reality. Fictive Nature seeks to dispel these illusions of reality, highlighting the extremes to which the natural world is twisted to the benefit of the image market. Through the juxtaposition of multiple popular editing techniques within a single image, the viewer is shown the extent to which nature is manipulated and idealised by the media.
