“I don’t forgive you”

Memories are considered to be integral to who we are as people. Equally trauma, and how we cope with its affects, can define our lives. Through using conceptual portraiture photography, my aim of this project is to create a visual language exploring the complexities of childhood trauma and its relationship with memory. I have been inspired by the work of Freud and his writings on screen memories, as well as Jo Spence’s use of photography as a therapeutic tool. As I have a personal connection to this project, i further wanted to illustrate how there is no ‘right way’ to navigate your trauma and past, and to show those who may be suffering, they are not alone.
