Transgender Student Experiences

2022, animation, events, graduates

On the 24th of November 2022, two of Sheffield Hallam Universities animation graduates delivered training for staff at SHU on how best to support transgender students.

The two students showed their final year animation films which were called ‘process’ and ‘growth’. Both films represented the process and journey that these students went on, learning how to adapt  and accept a new body and a new identity, the social violence that can be experienced, and the difficulty to feel safe.

After the screening of their short, animated films, both authors suggested ways in which transgender students could feel safer and more welcome at SHU. Some of their ideas included having a dedicated safe space for LGBT+ students, gender neutral toilets and a greater visibility and promotion of transgender groups around the city.
