Student Stories – Dom Charalambous

Students

Dom Charalambous is a third year BA Hons Animation student who recently participated in an employability module on her course called ‘L5 Integrated Project’. A project that Dom created for the module is now displayed in the Hallam i-Lab as an art piece on the walls. Not only did it open the door for Dom’s art, but it was also an interactive module as the animation students were mixed with the digital media students and there were clients that were assigned to students where the students had to pitch their ideas and produce work based on an individual brief. They would have weekly meetings with different advisors on how to interact with clients in a professional environment. Dom was assigned to her client, Darren from the Hallam i-Lab, who she would interact with through emails and 1-2-1 meetings, as well as getting feedback.

Just before university restarted last year, Darren contacted Dom offering a Santander Internship Scheme to pay Dom for her work, as he had previously mentioned about using her idea. From then Dom made a production schedule to show what she would be doing and when. She was paid in two installments after specific hours of work had been done. Whilst painting the project, Dom conversed with people in the workplace and managed to network with her peers in the office. Currently Dom is wanting to work in the pre-production sections of either 2D or Stop Motion animation, she is interested in a few areas of pre-production so has no solid goal yet.
