Graduate Stories – Animation Alumni joins skillset trainee scheme

animation, graduates

Christopher Plummer graduated from the SHU BA Animation course in 2019. luckily he managed to work as a stop motion animator before the pandemic hit. As you can imagine, “on site” job opportunities were greatly affected. Chris managed to get a few freelance roles but his goal was still to work in a studio environment . Improving his skills throughout the pandemic, Chris set a goal of becoming more employable in this competitive niche.

“I wanted to get onto the ScreenSkills trainee scheme because it seemed the best way to get started again in the animation industry. In a field where opportunities seem to depend on good timing and connections, I saw screen skills as the perfect entry method since they have many connections throughout the industry.”

What was it like finding out you got accepted onto the programme?

“I was over the moon to be accepted onto the ScreenSkills program. It felt like I’d been finally validated for the years of work I had invested in improving my skills and continuing to improve as the pandemic greatly reduced opportunities for entry level animators.”

What you are up to on it now currently doing on the programme?

Currently It’s still early days on the trainee scheme but I have been matched with a fantastic mentor who is providing me with vital tips and guidance for the future. I’m very grateful for the opportunity with high hopes for what comes this year!
